About Gen Z Talks Law

The law has been thrust to the forefront of politics. And young people are engaging with politics now more than ever. The law, however, is inaccessible and impersonal. There is a lack of media which reaches out to young people about legal topics. Gen Z Talks Law is in direct response to that problem.

By providing independent, objective journalism Gen Z Talk Law is an outlet for a younger generation. That is not to say “older” people are not welcome here—you are! But the goal of this reporting to to engage people that do not see themselves in the law and legal conversations.

Here you will find news, investigative reports, expert interviews and more in print and as a podcast.

"I hope to inspire people to try to follow this path, because I love this country, because I love the law, because I think it is important that we all invest in our future. And the young people are the future."

-Ketanji Brown Jackson, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, 2022

About Raea

I am a student at New York University (NYU) studying Social Work and Journalism. I hope to one day become a lawyer with particular interest in international and constitutional law, hoping to merge the skills and values of her social work education with the legal profession. I was awarded the NYU Gallatin Global Fellowship in Human Rights through which I worked to support LGBTQ+ migrants and asylum seekers in Barcelona, Spain. On campus, I am a student leader who has worked on innovative, cross-university initiatives.

I aim for my journalism to be go beyond inclusivity, exploring angles seldom taken in mainstream media channels. So often we hear the judicial opinions, political infighting, and voices of the most powerful people. Those elements are crucial to any story but they do not paint the whole picture. By cutting through the noise, we can find what matters most—the lives of those at the crosshairs of the law. I do this through my sourcing: finding voices hardly voiced—connecting their experience to wider legal landscape by speaking with the foremost legal experts.

I am a young journalist. I have a lot yet to contribute—and yet to learn. Gen Z Talks Law is an endeavor at both. I encourage your comments and critiques. That is how we grow—not only as individuals—but as a community trying to unpick our beautifully complicated world, country, and selves and the ways the law impacts all of those things. You can reach me here or raea@genztalkslaw.com.

Thank you for reading and listening to, engaging with, and supporting the young leaders of tomorrow.
